Dr. Martin “Yossi” Borenstein, who joined KFPP in 2020
Dr. Borenstein joins Kids First in January 2020, as our seventh pediatrician in the practice, bringing his decades of pediatric experience to Kids First.
After nearly 30 years working as a pediatrician in Chicago’s southwest suburbs, Dr. Borenstein will join our practice on January 6, 2020. His patients and colleagues of decades will surely miss him in Orland Park, but his family is thrilled that he’ll be working on the Northshore.
Dr. Borenstein knew he would need a new opportunity on Chicago’s Northshore for a while, as the birth rate in the U.S. declines and is declining even faster in the southwest suburbs. The national birth rate in America is at 1.7 percent, and school enrollment is down 15 percent in Orland Park. “If you don’t have enough newborns, you can’t have an effective practice because patients age out,” says Dr. Borenstein. “We had a well-run practice, but this was not an issue we can solve.”
Once Dr. Borenstein decided it was time to move north, he was attracted to Kids First because of our outstanding reputation in the area. “I like that Kids First is so focused on providing excellent service to patients. They’re open seven days a week, with walk in hours every weekday.” This was similar to the pediatric culture Dr. Borenstein’s southwest suburb practice. “We really set up our practice to make it very easy for patients to get in to see their doctor whenever they needed. We also had office hours seven days a week.” Kids First has this same philosophy – to provide excellent care.”
Dr. Borenstein also appreciates the way our practice is set up with a lot of infrastructure and support, allowing doctors to focus entirely on patient care. “There are staff members dedicated to handling referrals, as well as many other things that can be very time consuming for doctors. This removes these burdens from the doctors, so we can spend more time with our patients.”
Our approach to medical care also appeals to Dr. Borenstein. This means that we focus on all areas of a child’s care, including social and emotional issues within the whole family structure. From lactation services, to asthma care, nutrition and behavioral health – Kids First families can receive much of their children’s healthcare right from our office.
Dr. Borenstein describes his approach to medicine as “common sense medicine.” He tends to be noninvasive, utilizing few over the counter medicines, avoids the overuse of antibiotics and overuse of testing children. Similarly to everyone at our practice, he stresses patient education. “I make sure patients understand what the issue is and how to approach it so that they are on board.”
Everyone here at Kids First is impressed with Dr. Borenstein’s knowledge and experience that comes as a result of his many years of experience working with children and their families, and we look forward to having him join our team.
