We got lucky in December, with milder temperatures and no snow. We’re betting Chicago won’t be so lucky in January. No worries, we’ve got you covered. Check out the following sites for snow-filled fun.

  • James Park and Warren Park: These are no doubt the best free sledding hills in the area. Dress warm, bring hot cocoa and wear a helmet on your way down!
  • Frozemont: New in Rosemont, this four story hill offers tubing, along with free ice skating. There’s a smaller hill for littler tykes as well.
  • Caldwell Woods: This lighted slope has a warming center with a wood-burning fire pit perfect for warming frozen fingers. 6380 W. Devon Ave. It’s small, but fun.
  • Soldier Field: The southeast corner of the stadium has a 220-foot-long man-made slope that’s always kept snowy, thanks to park district’s snow machine. 425 E. McFetridge Drive (312-235-7000).
