4 Tips for Navigating Referrals
Many families in our office have been grateful for the help of Theo, our referral coordinator. Theo has worked at Kids First Pediatric Partners since 2007. Theo helps families navigate with coordination of care for specialists or tests that are needed. We know how cumbersome insurance can be, and Theo helps to ensure that patients find a participating/preferred provider that accepts their insurance and is also someone that we trust.
Following are four tips to make sure your referrals go smoothly:
- If you are thinking of seeing a specialist, please give us a call first. We may be able to treat the condition for your child or recommend a specialist.
- Please make sure that we have a current copy of your insurance card. Every plan is different, and there are some key words on some of the insurance cards that are vital for processing your referral.
- Please call us as soon as you schedule your specialist appointment so that we have plenty of time to process your referral.
- Check the expiration date on your referral. Most are good for 90 days and may be good for more than one visit.
When Theo is not working on referrals or taking care of our fish he enjoys playing drums, cheering for the Cubs, camping, trying new foods and traveling.
